I love Earth. This little ball we call home coul

I love Earth.

This little ball we call home couldn’t be more amazing; it’s a truly wonderful place in the universe. It’s hard to not find something beautiful everywhere you look. I don’t think we could imagine a more ideal home than Earth.

The polarity around topics like climate change, pollution, development, carbon emissions, harmful tourism, livestock, etc. only compound our inaction. Odds are we all can find something we believe in that benefits the greater good of our little blue home. Maybe it’s reducing your carbon footprint, maybe it’s reducing and advocating against single-use plastics, maybe it’s voting for candidates that want to stop development of virgin or rewilded land, everyone can do something!

This is what happens when a pancake steals your meal.

A dozen whitetip reef sharks piled on top of this stingray trying to get whatever was underneath it. Whether it was the stingray’s catch or one of the reef sharks’ it sure caused quite a commotion.

And yes, that reef shark at the end of the video did run into me 😂.

Manta Eclipse.

This photo is a little bit of a “happy accident.” In a moment of total amateurism, I turned my camera directly into the sun in an attempt to capture this manta as it passed over and didn’t adjust any of my settings to account for all this extra light. Thus, I ended up with a photo that was completely over-exposed and blown-out. I felt kind of silly as I reviewed my shots later that day but then I remembered that photography is art and the style of this composition felt really artful. I added some grain in Lightroom and it just really came alive and felt real.

Immersed in a school of bigeye jacks(trevally). These schools can grow to become absolutely massive and the behaviors have been described as a “jack tornado.” This was a smaller school but still really cool to be swallowed by the school as they passed through.

Seagrass blades pulsing in the surge of the ocean waves as a hogfish cruises by, heading to the cleaning station or the next sandy spot where it can dig for its next meal.

I was once talking about fish with a neighbor and we got to the hogfish and he said it was his favorite “snapper.” Which I responded that it was actually a wrasse. He didn’t believe me! He physically left, went into his house, Googled it, and came back to inform me that it was actually a wrasse 🤣 True story.

A roughtail stingray portrait pic for #worldwildlifeday. Planet Earth is nearly 2/3rds ocean, so effectively it’s Planet Ocean, and this is where the majority of our wildlife flourishes.

There are parts of this blue planet that are wild and wonderful and protected against the rising tides of human impact. But, unfortunately, there are many more parts that have been affected so severely they’re seemingly irreparable. All wild places need our help, especially those with the most biodiversity. We all need to fight to protect these spaces when we shop, when we eat, when we travel, and especially when we vote.

I got a little boop by a giant.

This was a really cool encounter because the dive was nearly over and I was just kind of floating around after my safety stop videoing the parathias plucking food out of the water. Then I was nearly run over by the giant oceanic manta ray @manta__lena had tagged at the beginning of the dive. She gave me a really close eye-to-eye inspection and then circled back for a fly-over which is when I got the picture of her in the sunset colors I posted a few weeks ago.
